Textbooks: Perceptions
of Student Use
Survey participants were asked a
series of questions related to student
purchase and use of textbooks.
Only 26 of the 81 respondents
required students to purchase an access
code that was bundled with a textbook.
Three participants had never checked
the price of their textbook, while 67
said they had checked the price within
the last year. According to the College
Board’s Average Estimated Undergraduate
Budgets, 2018-19 (2016), students
at a four-year public university spend an
average of $1,240 per academic year on
books and materials. If a student were
