Academic English Courses
Keele University’s Pre-sessional Academic English
courses have been carefully designed to help you
acquire the skills you need for success in your degree.
Our courses range from 6 to 11
weeks depending on your individual
needs and current level of English so
that when you have completed your
course, you can start your degree
programme with confidence.

Joining a Pre-sessional Academic
English course at Keele means that
by the time you start your degree
programme, you will not only have
improved your academic skills
and built your confidence but also
become familiar with the local area
and the accommodation, facilities
and staff on our beautiful campus.
Keele University’s Pre-sessional
Academic English courses provide:
• British Council Accredited with
experienced and qualified English
Language teachers
• A minimum of 21 hours English
instruction each week
• Small class sizes to give you the
support you need
• Instruction and practice in reading,
writing, speaking and listening for
academic purposes
• All course materials and use of the
university Library and IT Suite
• Personalised feedback at the
end of the course
• Individual recommendations
for self-study
• A Certificate of Attendance
• A variety of teaching methods to
enhance your study experience

Entry Requirements
Entry onto a pre-sessional English
Programme requires a SELT
(Secured English Language Test)
as defined by the UKVI (UK Home
Office). When you select and book
an IELTS test, you must ensure that
you select an IELTS SELT for UKVI
purposes.
These tests are only offered at
a limited number of test centres.
If you have taken one of these
tests but did not achieve the grade
you needed, you can study on
a pre-sessional course before
you start your degree studies.
