Besides the botanical garden, the res-
taurant, and the wine cellar, El Divino
also has the Casa del Campesino, {the
peasant house), where visitors may get
an in depth knowledge of the history
and culture of Cuba. They also sponsor
social projects for the elderly and chil-
dren, and they have concerts, art classes
and other types of cultural events. Anna
Maria Barba-Poindexter and her hus-
band of Poindexter Dental Inc. brought
school supplies and toys to give to chil-
dren. They gave what they had left to a
few of Mrs. Alvarez’s students as we said
goodbye.
It was a pleasure to see Mrs. Yoandra
Alvarez again and meet her husband.
They have developed far more than a
first class, excellent restaurant. They are
indeed an asset to Havana.
HITDC’s Val Thompson and his team
intend to host an annual trip and pos-
sibly two. If you are interested in join-
ing or hosting a trade mission contact
us asap.
