New Regime
by T. Jenese Thompson
Charles asked that I adjust my propped position
from bruising the heirloom tomatoes
I found an area to rest my bags so that I wouldn’t ruin the fruit
and I cried in-route home because I’d tuned-in to
world news and I’d learned nothing
of such wisdom
so I sought out the Old Farmer’s Almanac
TODAY IS THE BEST DAY TO...
plant below-ground crops
can, pickle, or make sauerkraut
wean animals or children
harvest parsnip, brussels sprouts, swiss chard
and I’d say the likes of Charles in the produce market
as our chief
