Firing by the Wind
by T. Jenese Thompson
virtual army
members less skin
‘less they remember the wind
all on its own, wind
was intelligent enough to set the scene
by adjusting the colors
of season, savvy enough to entertain
soldiers by the flipping
of cloth — no virtual connection
to breathe new life into existence
the force was soft enough to kiss
a sorrowed cheek at the site
of a grave, steady enough to embrace
torsos of the brave
strong enough to defend
real men
with tales of before roaring
in from the shore
without vice to be learned
a final score
our flag firing by the wind
displayed so much more
