Baby Dragon

Protégé of his father, today
he is loose at least in his head
to be a creature that roars
about the moon
fires up his tail and soars
across the black sky, in an
infinite slide all feet upward
effortlessly
head strong and rearing back
in excellence to move forward
and only pause to survey, a beam
flashed his right eye
revs up his nostrils to breathe, tonight
he will excel the star’s bright
light and men will watch
in awe from earth
