Italy – motorcycle registrations + 4.71 % to September 2026
Compared to 2025, Italy continues to show improved motorcycle sales, with the market running at + 4.71 % growth through September( 120,364 new motorcycles registered YTD), although, overall, the growth trend has slowed through the year as the market emerges from the shadow of the 2024 / 25 Euro 5 + transition. New motorcycle registrations in Italy in the last three months were-6.51 %( 14,988 units) for July;-3.88 %( 5,819 units) for August and + 1.78 %( 11,191 units) for September. In total PTW terms the YTD data has Italy at + 10.88 % growth for the first nine months( 313,032 units vs. 282,323 for the first nine month of 2025), with July at + 4.68 %( 44.647 units); August at + 4.52 %( 16,095) and September at + 7.68 %( 31,573 units). Unlike for motorcycle registrations alone, that is the highest level of total PTW registrations for the first nine months in Italy since before the 2008 Financial Crisis. That suggests a booming Scooter market and that is indeed the case. Scooters were + 15.11 % YTD at 192,668 units. As usual, scooters dominate the YTD list of top-sellers in Italy, with Honda Italia ' s SH 125, 350 and 150 series taking the top three spots( 35,254 units between them for the first nine months of the year) followed by the Zontes ZT368T-G in fourth( 6,652 units YTD) and the Piaggio Liberty 125 ABS in fifth( 6,296). The ongoing increase in popularity of versatile ADV, Maxi-Scooter and multipurpose ' cross-over ' platforms continues to be evident in the Italian top sellers list with the Zontes ZT368T- G in fourth, the Honda X-ADV 750 in fifth( 5,885 units YTD), the ADV 350 in eighth( 5,396 units), the Yamaha TMax in 10th( 4,702 units) with the XMax 300 in 12th( 4,141 units) and Honda ' s Forxa 350 Maxi Scooter in 19th spot( 3,046 units YTD). For the first time there is not a single larger displacement motorcycle in the list of the top-20 bestselling models in Italy- ADV, naked or sports – as the trend towards more robust but agile and lower cost city and commuter platforms plays-out. So far this year( certainly through to July) the top-selling larger displacement motorcycle was Honda ' s Africa Twin. By September 7 of the top 20 best sellers were Hondas and five were from Piaggio. Other brands represented in the top 20 list were

Germany- motorcycle registrations + 17.51 %
The most recent available data from the IVM( the motorcycle industry trade association for Germany) shows new motorcycle registrations for the first eight months of 2026 growing at + 17.51 %( 91,946 units YTD). The data suggests that either the German market was more heavily affected by the Euro 5 + transition in 2025, especially in H1, or that there is a level of underlying growth there than very few analysts had been expecting. After a strong Q1, 2026, demand softened in April and May and July(+ 2.78 %/ 12,431 units). It was still positive, there was still growth, but + 19.24 % in June( 12,840) and + 16.75 % in August( 9,612 units) for an overall + 17.51 % market performance for the first eight months is robust. Total PTW registrations to August 2026 were + 24.75 % at 158,800 units – only some 16,000 units behind YTD August 2023- which was the strongest first eight-month market performance seen in Germany since the 2008 global financial crisis. As to be expected, the BMW R 1300 GS continues its market domination as the best seller in Germany with 5,125 units sold for a YTD( reduced) 5.57 % market share. The Kawasaki Z 900 remains in second spot( 3,629 units / 3.95 % share); followed by the Honda CBR650 R( 2,005 units / 2.18 %); Kawasaki Z 650( 1,788 units / 1.94 %) and Yamaha MT-07 in fifth( 1,590 units / 1.73 % share).
The CFMoto 675 SR-R is now up to sixth spot( 1,564 / 1.70 %), the Honda CB 750 Hornet is seventh( 1,485 / 1.62 %), with the Yamaha Ténéré 700 in eighth( 1,284 / 1.56 %), the BMW F900 R( 1,369 / 1.49 %) is in ninth ahead of the Yamaha MT- 09 in 10th( 1,365 / 1.49 %). Significantly a second CFMoto model is just outside the top 10 best sellers YTD on the Germany market – the 450 MT is in 11th spot with 1,236 units sold for a 1.34 % market share. No surprise that BMW remains the German market share leader( 16,986 units sold YTD for a( reduced) 18.39 % share with 13 models in the list of Germany ' s top 50 best sellers. Honda continues to close the gap with BMW, in second with a 15.44 % share( 14,197 units sold – also 13 models in the top 50); Kawasaki is also close, in third, with a 14.35 % share( 13,193 units – 6 models in the top 50) and they are now clear as German’ s‘ Big Three’. Yamaha is fourth on 7.67 % share( 7,052 units – 6 in the top 50) and CF Moto is now up to fifth spot in market share with 5,593 units sold YTD and 5 different models in the top 50 list of best sellers in Germany. KTM( with two models in the top 50) are in sixth followed by Triumph, Ducati, Harley-Davidson and Suzuki in seventh to ninth places, but without any models in the top 50 best sellers, and Suzuki in 10th with 1 model. Other brands that do feature in that list are Aprilia( with 2), Bird( 1), and Royal Enfield in 49th spot with 1 model – the Himalayan 452. In the electric( light) motorcycles segment Stark Future continues the market leadership it took from Zero with 1,313 units compared to the 185 sold by Zero in second place( now a Dutch globally headquartered American manufacturer), Vmoto in third( 178), Honda fourth( 143) and Kawasaki have taken fifth spot from NIU with 107 electrics sold YTD. For the record: total motorcycle registrations in Germany in 2025 were recorded as being a Euro 5‘ pre-reg’ distorted-36.02( 97,699 units) with total PTWs at-35.50 %( 161,744 units).
