UK- new motorcycle registrations + 16.55 % January to May
The latest motorcycle industry trade association data( MCIA) reflects the improved statistical picture seen as elsewhere in Europe as the data laps the late 2024 and early 2025 Euro 5 / Euro 5 + ' pre reg ' anomaly- though as mentioned elsewhere, some caution is still advised. Motorcycle registrations for the first five months of 2026 were + 16.55 %( 43,431 units) with January + 17.53 %( 4,625), February + 16.86 %( 3,757 units), March + 15.39 %( 14,572 units), April + 18.70 %( 9,597 units) and May + 15.72 %( 10,880 units). For the first time in some years, that paints a picture of a stable, growing market in the UK. Total new PTW registrations YTD in the UK were + 15.80 %( 44,946 units) reflecting the weakness of the UK as a small market for ' Mopeds '. Total scooter registrations YTD were + 19.8 % at
The remarkable Spanish PTW market continues to be, well, remarkable! In 2025 full year registration data terms, the one exception among the ' Big Five ' motorcycle markets in Europe has been Spain- the only one to have seen market growth last year. At the time of publication, the most recent published data from ANESDOR( the motorcycle industry association in Spain) covered the first five months of 2026 and, on a prima facie basis at least, the PTW registration statistics for Spain so far this year are, again, nothing short of spectacular. For the first five months, YTD registrations of new motorcycles are said to be up by + 23.16 % at 108,349 units- despite the counterintuitive 2025 market strength. As the new statistical year started to lap the Euro5 + ' Pre-Reg ' compromised ' year ago ' data, January was + 14.53( 15,260 units), February + 22.70 units( 17,110 units) and March up by + 39.40 % at 24,642 units. Since then, April was + 23.21 %( 24,059 units) and May + 15.87 %( 26,865 units). Yes, the rate of market growth does appear to be slowing, but it has a long
9,881 new units registered in the year to May. The market wide trend towards lower displacements continues in the UK, with 51-125 cc, 126-500 cc and 501-750 cc units + 29.9 %, + 21.1 % and + 20.8 % respectively. The ADV sector is the UK market ' s largest now, worth 10,345 units YTD and up by 24.8 % over the year ago; the Naked bike and Modern Classic segments are next with 8.872 and 5,169 units sold YTD respectively. There were 1,137 new electric PTWs registered in the UK in the year to May, down by-11.6 % compared to a year ago. For the record: Total new motorcycle registrations in the UK in 2025 were recorded as 89,160 units(-19.42 %). As elsewhere though, this excludes the several thousand data distorting Euro 5 models that
way to go before seeing the kind of low single digits seen in Italy and Germany( for example) in May. In Q4, 2024 there were many fewer regulation deadline-beating Euro 5 / Euro 5 + pre-registrations in Spain than was the case elsewhere and, also unlike other ' Big Five ' markets, there is genuine growth in demand for new motorcycles and PTWs in Spain. In the past two or three years, Spain has proven to be were pre-registered in late 2024 before the Euro 5 + regulation update became effective at the start of 2026. These models were nonetheless nearly all sold through dealerships in 2025, mostly in H1.

Italy- new motorcycle registrations + 7.91 % to May
Italy continues to show better sales than in 2025 with the market running at + 7.91 % growth through May( 70,823 new motorcycles registered). In motorcycle terms the first three months were + 13.93 % at 35,637 units registered. Then April was + 3.73 %( 17,068 units) and May was just 1.22 % up at 18,118 units; the rate of annual growth has reduced with each month of 2026 so far.
