Small can still be safe

French motorcycle anti-theft specialist Top Block is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year and continues to expand its catalogue. One of its most recent new products is what it says is the smallest SRA-approved disc lock. The X65 disc lock is described as " smaller and lighter than other fitments, but is just as secure- and there is a disc lock suited to small brake discs with a 6.5 mm locking pin." The X65 represents a " compact secondary anti-theft device that is easy to carry " for larger scooters and motorbikes. Fully SRA approved in France( Sécurité et Réparation Automobiles) and backed by a 5-year warranty, the popularity of disc locks has been growing in recent years, even surpassing the traditional U-locks that long represented the majority of sales at Top Block and across the wider market. This trend has been driven by the popularity of alarmed disc locks- 2-in- 1 anti-theft devices that are compact and easy to use. However, for some small-capacity two-wheelers, using a disc lock has remained problematic due to the small size and configuration of their brake discs, as is the case, for example, with the Honda PCX 125. In response, Top Block took on the challenge and developed a pocket-size disc lock( 48 × 34 × 61 mm) featuring a reinforced 6.5 mm pin capable of fitting through the holes of even the smallest brake discs while still achieving the essential SRA certification( Sécurité Réparation Automobile). Until now, no disc lock with a pin smaller than 10 mm had ever obtained SRA approval- an
approval required by many insurance companies. The new X65 from Top Block therefore becomes the smallest SRA-approved disc lock on the market. Easy to carry thanks to its compact size and light weight, the new X65 can fit into tight spaces under the seat or in a pocket, while also offering the option of mounting directly on the motorcycle using a dedicated holder. This makes it an ideal secondary security device for protecting a two-wheeler during short stops. " Thanks to a rigorous design and the development of a new high-strength forged steel material, the lock features a single-piece body that provides exceptional structural rigidity. The component is then heat-treated and zinc-coated to ensure effective protection against corrosion and external elements. " Its compact format, combined with the limited space available to access the reinforced pin once installed on the brake disc, makes attempted attacks more difficult. It is particularly hard to reach and therefore difficult to break, especially when positioned in areas that are less accessible to thieves." The X65 disc lock also features a drillresistant lock with multiple key combinations, supplied with two keys, as well as a reminder cable designed to prevent riding off while the lock is still in place.
