More changes as MotoAmerica continues to refine its class structure with Stock 1000 Class riders slated to join the premier Superbike grid in 2026- the two classes will merge to form the MotoAmerica Superbike Cup. " The change strengthens the Superbike grid and gives Stock 1000 riders more exposure and opportunities. Superbike Cup racers will earn points for both championships and receive podium recognition, with the chance to stand on both the Superbike and Cup podiums. Balancing rules will provide allowances for lower-performing motorcycles to maintain competitiveness in racing." Cup riders will now have the chance to compete at all nine venues and in all 20 Superbike races; www. motoamerica. com
Norton has officially ended production of its V4SV Superbike, the V4CR café racer and the Commando 961- arguably ending the brand ' s last links to Norton ' s heritage. The Commando in particular has resonated down the decades and in its day was one of the most recognisable and revered designs in motorcycling. All final units were bought by dealers and collectors. The factory is now tooled and ready for production of the brand ' s next generation of models, which will be unveiled at EICMA; nortonmotorcycles. com
From the eight custom teams chosen to participate in Triumph Motorcycles ' 2025 ' Triumph Originals ' custom challenge, the selected winner was Shibuya Garage in Sao Paulo, Brazil with ' Gaijin ', a " dark and moody café racer " based on a Speed Twin 1200, created by the impressive Teydi Deguchi; www. shibuyagarage. com
Italy – registrations to September-12.84 %
Though continuing to stabilise, the latest data from ANCMA, the motorcycle industry trade association for Italy show new motorcycle registrations continuing to( theoretically) decline- being down for the first nine months by-12.84 %( 115,052 units). However, as is the case in most other European markets( except for Spain) the data remains hopelessly distorted by the primary OEM ' s Q4 2024 rush to pre-register unsold Euro 5 spec models before the upgraded Euro 5 + regulations came into force on 1 January this year. The result? In statistical terms a confused and confusing picture. However, the underlying data for Italy is not as bad as appears. Despite the rate of decline being down to-5.20 % in July( 16,050 units), August was disappointing at-19.09 %( 6,069 units only) but September was the ' lowest decline ' of the year so far at-1.24 %( 11,000 units). For the YTD new registrations are at-12.84 % by the end of September at( 115,052 units). Underlying market growth may be evidenced in the total PTW registration figures for the first nine months with an apparent decline of just-1.22 %( 282,391 units YTD)- only some 3,500 units down on the same period of 2024. There was strong growth in June(+ 7.76 %/ 42,494 units), July(+ 8.79 %/ 42,660 units) and September(+ 13.9 %/ 29,331 units). As usual the top selling units in Italy are scooters, with Honda Italia ' s SH 125, 350 and 150 series taking the top
The motorcycle market in Spain continues to excel. In Q4, 2024 there were many fewer regulation deadline-beating Euro 5 / Euro 5 + pre-registrations than was the case elsewhere. As a result, the most recent data from ANESDOR, the motorcycle industry association in Spain( January to September 2027) show the motorcycle market at + 10.60 %( 180,941 units YTD). July was another ' bumper ' month in Spain, with growth of + 25.78 %( 28,369 units) over July 2024, with August at + 10.54 %( 16,798 units) and September up by + 14.87 %( 22,902 units). In the first nine months of the year total PTW registrations( including mopeds) were + 9.82( 190,401 units). Honda remains market share leader YTD with a 22.9 % slice of the action in Spain, ahead of Yamaha second( 15.3 %), Zontes third( 8.3 %), Voge fourth( 6.6 %) and Kymco fifth( 5.9 %). They are followed by BMW, SYM, Kawasaki, Piaggio and QJMotor. The Yamaha NMAX 125 continues as the best-selling model YTD( 10,112 units / 5.6 % share), followed by the Honda PCX 125( 7,611 / 4.2 % share), Zontes 368 G, Sym Symphony 125 and the Voge 900 DSX in-line twin in fifth- the best seller three spots( nearly 35,000 units YTD between them) followed by the X-ADV 750, the Piaggio Liberty 125 ABS, Kymco People S 125, Honda Italia ' s ADV 350, Voge SFIDA SR16 and Yamaha ' s TMAX and XMAX 350. The 750 X-ADV scooter aside, the top-selling larger displacement motorcycle platform in the first nine months in Italy was( no surprise) the BMW R 1300 GS( 3,321 units YTD) in 15th spot. Total Scooter sales were 167,339 units, which was up by 8.743 % YTD- further probable proof of underlying total PTW market growth.
