Is it safe to live in Cairo?
CCDC is located in Mohandessin, a popular neighborhood for
shopping and dining in the Egyptian capital. The area is also home to
a number of embassies and numerous international brand name
stores.
Life in Cairo is safe. Crime is very low, especially compared to other
urban areas around the world. Transportation by taxi, metro, and bus
is highly affordable and you will not have trouble walking the streets,
even at night. The main security issues facing Egypt do not infringe on
everyday life in the city, as they are confined to Sinai, 250 km away
from the capital.
Cairo is considered a safe destination by most foreign embassies and travel agencies. For
current and more detailed information please refer to your embassy and check this page.
(For more context, here is an informative testimony of an American student formerly
based in Cairo.)
