Mastering UK CVs –
a session for EU and
International Students This session will help you to learn how to build a UK CV from scratch – it will look at
structure, use of language and how best to highlight your skills. It will give you advice on
what information to include as well as what not to!
Navigating the Graduate
Recruitment Cycle This session will cover the timeline for graduate recruitment and the assessment methods
used by recruiters. It will also cover factors you should consider when applying for roles.

Simple steps to help you
find a job while you study
– A session for EU and
International Students Run by Kent Union JobShop, this session will explain why working part-time during your
studies is a great way to develop your skills and confidence and add experiences to your
CV. Get some advice about how to find work part-time in the UK, find out what UK
employers are looking for and how to make yourself stand out amongst the competition
ahead of meeting employers and organisations at the International Student Experience
Fair on the 20 October in Darwin, or the Kent Union JobShop Part-time Jobs Fair on the
2 November in Keynes Atrium.
Work experience and
placements in the UK –
a session for EU and
International Students What is work experience in the UK? Getting work experience is very important in the UK job
market – this session will cover what is considered to be work experience, why it is
important and ideas on where to look for opportunities on and off the campus. It will also
brief section on what you need to consider if you are a Tier 4 student and want a year in
industry or to be part of a vacation scheme.
Making a Career
Decision This session will help you to think through your values and strengths and how these can
inform your choice of career.
Working in the UK after
your studies – options for
International students This session will cover Tier 2 (General) work permit criteria and how to find a sponsoring
employer. Tier 4 Doctoral Extension Scheme for PhD students and Tier 5 options
International Student
Experience Fair Come along to the International Student Experience Fair and learn about the support
available to you at the University. Perhaps you need help with your studies, or you’d like to
attend workshops to improve your learning? Maybe you’d like support for your personal
wellbeing? Find out more at the fair. They’ll be a prize draw and the opportunity to win
Amazon vouchers. An event not to be missed!
We’re also holding an intercultural awareness workshop alongside the fair, where you can
learn about other cultures as you study in an international environment.
Talking Cultures: In the
Workplace Talking Cultures: In the Workplace, addresses the notion of intercultural communication
and aims to further enhance students' cultural awareness of working in a contemporary
internationalised workplace. The interactive workshop will help to increase awareness of
cultural differences, explore cultural heritage, prejudices and stereotypes, identify
communication barriers and strategies to overcome these. Differences in politeness,
respect and power are further elements which will be of focus.

Employability Points 10 points for each of the talks, 5 points for the International Student
Experience Fair and if you attend all you gain a bonus 5 making a total of 80 points altogether.
