Balloon Boy symbolizes every patient we care for at Children ’ s Hospital Colorado . He is reaching up , elevated by the power of possibility . He balances on one foot , a sign of playfulness and joy . Balloons represent the spirit of childhood with their ability to defy gravity almost like magic , but actually lifted by science . They are a symbol of celebration and happiness — of hanging on and letting go . Children inherently understand this .
