RULES OF USAGE

Academic papers and citations

When including the name of a published academic paper , use title case and place the article title in quotation marks . Cite papers using footnotes and Modern Language Association ( MLA ) style .
Example : Jane Doe , MD , published an article ( 1 ) titled , “ Safety and Immunogenicity of Live Viral Vaccines in a Multicenter Cohort of Pediatric Transplant Recipients .”

Graphs

Graphs are an excellent complement to stories about research and outcomes , in particular . It is important to be consistent and clear with graphs , so that data is accurately reported . This is critical to our reputation and dependability .
• Be sure to consider your audience when you ’ re deciding whether to include a particular graph . Is the graph too complicated for your audience ?
• When displaying a graph , make sure that numerical axes use consistent intervals , and show the full scale , starting at zero .
• Give the graph a headline , written in sentence case and include clear labels for both the x and y axes , also in sentence case .

Spanish translation guidelines

When possible , submit patient-facing , informational content for Spanish translation through our Medical Interpretation and Translation Department . Do not use AI-powered translation , such as Google Translate .
• Translate in English first , Spanish second for wayfinding and signage .
• For education or marketing materials that have been translated into Spanish , only add English where needed using parentheses .
