RULES OF USAGE

Hospital locations and naming conventions

System of care
We sometimes refer to all of the locations that fall under the Children ’ s Hospital Colorado umbrella as our system of care . Internally , you may see people use the phrasing “ network of care ,” but this should never be used externally .
Our name
On first reference , always refer to the hospital by its full name , Children ’ s Hospital Colorado . On second reference , you may use Children ’ s Colorado .
Note : In a social media context , the page name is considered the first reference , so it is OK to say Children ’ s Colorado on first reference within a post .
Never use other abbreviations for our name externally , such as Children ’ s or CHCO .
Our region
There are many different ways to categorize the community we serve , which includes kids from all over the country , but primarily from the Rocky Mountain region .
• Avoid using “ seven-state region ,” as this is a term that only makes sense to internal audiences .
• Use “ our region ,” “ the region ” or “ Rocky Mountain region .”
Location names
The official names of our locations , in both English and Spanish , are listed on the following page . These full location names should be used on the first reference with few exceptions . In the chart , you will also see the proper way to refer to each location on second reference .
These exceptions include :
• Lists with more than one location
• Signage ( leave off the city name , as patients and families already know where they are )
• Social media and in media stories , where space is limited
