HOW TO ATTACK A 60-YEAR OLD DAM IN THE HEART OF THE NILE
civil engineering and inspection projects of the kind undertaken at the Nalubaale dam site by Interface and their international partner Bridgezone, assume a deep significance when the inspection site is also of great national importance.
Bridgezone being the project partners, whilst the most important component are the ultimate stakeholders, in this instance the citizens and businesses of Uganda, who are reliant upon the energy produced by these vital Hydro Electric Turbines.
Local and national commercial growth and community development relies on the power produced by the Nalubaale Dam, and this aspect of the project certainly instilled a sense of responsibility in all of the partner companies and contract teams to produce a reliable outcome.
The inspection carried out was focusing on the underwater condition and structure of the dam. To this end we devised a two tier strategy of inspection to ensure commercial viability and provide detailed technical coverage and data collection.
Sonar Technology - Interface and Bridgezone initially deployed a sonar scanning system whichenabled an excellent detailed reproduction of the sub surface structure. The quality of this imaging for example even showed up the various concrete pours and shuttering marks cast at the various stages of construction.
