Partners: Artelia Eau & Environment
Timeline: February 2015 – August 2015 (7 months)
Total E&P Uganda and Tullow Oil have contracted Artelia Eau & Environment together with Interface Consulting Ltd to undertake a “Social and Health Baseline Survey” (SHBS) for the Lake Albert field Development in Northern Uganda. Data collected and analyzed through this study will not only better inform Total E&P Uganda on implementation of future operations, but also provide insight into the existing social environmental issues and conditions prevalent within the area.
The study has been structured in a way that will better explain these societal contexts and how they could potentially impact on operations. Stakeholder engagements through community mapping, focus group discussions and key informant interviews have been carried out at both the regional and national level. Issues being assessed include; local governance and political context, institutional capacity, demographics, access to basic infrastructure and services, land use and related challenges, gender relations and cultural practices among others.
