able to pay off the debt and bring the watch back.’
'That’s interesting, Sameer,' said Vikram. 'Have you brought it with you? I’d like
to see it.'
'No. I wanted to test if all this is merely a coincidence,' I replied.
'So what did you do?' asked Vikram.
'Four days ago, I went to the Residency, the graveyard. I entered the graveyard,
which usually remains empty. I dug up a hole and buried the watch there,' I said.
'What? Why?' asked Vikram again.
'I wanted to see what happens,' I quipped.
'Did the watch have the initials A. M. K. engraved on the back of it by any
chance?' asked Vikram.
I was shocked. 'Yes, indeed! How on earth did you know that?' Everybody turned
to look at Vikram.
'My great grandfather got his initials carved onto it after it was lost and found.
They stand for Ashraf Mohammad Khan, his name.'
'Well, it seems the graveyard was not entirely empty after all when you visited
it,' replied Vikram with a smile.
