EDITOR ’ S COMMENT

Ramadan Kareem and greetings to the

readers of Intelligent Tech Channels .
The pandemic drew attention to the benefits of cloud platforms and enabling digital technologies and there has been no looking back since then . Service providers across GCC are scaling the robustness of their datacentres while hyperscale players AWS , Microsoft , Oracle are relooking and enhancing the distribution of their cloud regions across the GCC countries . Saudi Arabia and UAE are now the top destinations for digital and cloud players to operate from .
All this activity would not be possible if the regional , national , and local networks were not geared up to scale with this demand . Equally important are the datacentres whether for co-location or hosting or dedicated and their underlying compute infrastructure that exists to support this criss-cross digital traffic .
In this edition of Intelligent Tech Channels , our lead feature looks at the challenges of overheating inside the datacentre and the inability of traditional HVAC systems to cope with these requirements . CPUs inside servers are being overheated beyond the 300W mark to manage the workloads being driven by AI , ChatGP , digital twins and soon to come Metaverse and the gamut of immersive experiences .
Clearly an opportunity for specialised channel partners to innovate and move in .
According to trends available with ALEC Data Centre Solutions , the energy consumed by datacentres has soared from 0.4Kw per sqm in 2000 and before to 11Kw per sqm in 2020 . This is expected to reach 22Kw per sqm in 2025 .
The architecture of cooling systems used by datacentres is changing from air cooled to liquid immersion cooling . Air cooled systems can support datacentres up to 2U servers that consume 300W . Beyond that
datacentres need to start considering liquid immersion systems . The cut-off limit for aircooled high-density servers that use CPUs and GPUs is 300W .
For more about this inflexion and disruption inside datacentres and how channel partners can position themselves , turn these pages .
Moving forward , in one of our most thumbed sections we invited responses from the industry on : what are the opportunities for channel partners in helping enterprises to remove departmental silos and integrate front office , middle office , and back-office operations ? And received informative responses from executives of Omnix Digital , Fortinet , Check Point Software , and Liferay .
And in this month ’ s popular executive profile section we present Channel Chief executives from Texub and Zebra Technologies .
All this and our range of thought leadership blogs , news , and trends in the pages ahead . Happy reading and blessings for this holy month .
