Microsoft to work with 13 startups using AI to help UK ’ s health , manufacturing and resource sectors
Thirteen companies which are helping the UK ’ s healthcare , manufacturing and resource sectors recover from the impact of COVID-19 have been chosen to join Microsoft ’ s AI for Social Impact 2021 programme .
As part of the programme , which is managed in partnership with Social Tech Trust , Microsoft will work with the start-ups to develop Artificial Intelligence solutions that can be used by organisations to improve people ’ s lives and the world around us .
C the Signs , for example , is a digital platform that uses AI to identify patients at risk of cancer at a much earlier stage . SafetyNet Technologies has created a device that converts fishing boats into scientific vessels , allowing fishers to have a deeper understanding of the oceans , help reduce wastage in the seafood industry and assist climate modelling .
Nadia Laabs , Co-Founder and Chief Operating Office at SafetyNet Technologies , said : “ The team is delighted to be part of this year Microsoft AI for Social Impact cohort .”

Airly raises US $ 3.3 million from marquee tech investors to address the air quality health crisis
Cleantech business , Airly , has announced it has raised a US $ 3.3 million funding round to scale its AI-powered air quality platform globally . Airly ’ s customers comprise over 600 local governments and cities including Hong Kong , Jakarta , Oslo , Granada , corporates such as Phillips , Virgin , Innogy , PwC , Veolia and Skanska . Airly will open offices in the UK and US as it doubles staff count .
The funding round was led by firstminute capital , an earlystage venture fund based in
London , which is led by Brent Hoberman CBE and backed by over 70 unicorn tech founders .
Airly provides actionable insights about air quality with its AI-driven algorithms that predict air pollution for the next 24 hours with a verifiability of up to 95 %. Airly gives customers across the globe an environmental intelligence platform by installing networks of sensors that track all the key pollution markers – particulate matter ( PM1 , PM2.5 , PM10 ) and gases ( NO 2
, O 3 , SO 2 and CO ).
Endeavor Greece , the Greek chapter of the global organisation supporting the rise of new ecosystems , has announced that it will be launching a new platform targeting skilled tech experts abroad , both Greek and non- Greek , looking to connect and break into the local tech scene . Available at WorkInTech . gr , applicants can demonstrate their interest in working in the Greek tech industry by filling out a simple application form , entering a global registry of talented individuals . Leading candidates will then be connected , according to their profile , to the country ’ s fastestgrowing employers .
