The UK ’ s northern technology sector is leading the way in tech innovation
New integrated product suite delivers productivity and security for IT departments
In a move that aims to reduce vendor fatigue and streamlines the IT experience for small and midsize businesses ( SMBs ), software developer Devolutions has announced that its software products have now been integrated into a suite of essential IT management applications . This includes solutions for the management of remote connections , remote access , passwords and privileged access . When used in conjunction with one another , Devolutions ’ suite of IT solutions provides a seamless user experience that combines increased security with productivity . “ Vendor fatigue is a real thing , especially during these challenging times ,” said Devolutions CEO David Hervieux . “ The average IT professional at an SMB doesn ’ t have time to participate in multiple calls with multiple vendors to hear about each of their individual solutions and then worry about how they will all fit together . With Devolutions , IT pros are provided with a one-stop shop , where they can purchase a series of solutions that easily integrate to make their lives easier .”
The North East of England , Northern Ireland , Scotland and Yorkshire & Humber are fast becoming new powerhouses for UK tech innovation . An initiative from London Tech Week and UK Tech Cluster Group highlights the critical levellingup taking place across the UK tech ecosystem , showing how these regions are playing an increasingly important role .
Leading global tech brands are choosing to set up in these areas , which are also now fertile breeding grounds for some of the very best start-ups and SMEs in the sector .
The encouraging geographical shift is highlighted in the first four reports from the 12 Clusters of Tech initiative , which is definitively mapping the whole of UK tech . These reports are the first in a series of 12 , which will show key technology trends and provide an invaluable guide to every corner of Britain ’ s tech community . The reports show the rise of different types of tech across the regions . In the North East , AI and immersive tech are flourishing . In Northern Ireland , HealthTech and FinTech are dominating and in Scotland cybersecurity and Mobility-as-a- Service are growing fast .
Recent research from GP Bullhound highlights that the fastest-growing northern tech companies are well distributed across the whole of the region – but particularly in the North West and Yorkshire .
Organisations failing to prepare employees to confront ever-growing cybersecurity threats
A recent survey conducted by Censuswide on behalf of KnowBe4 , a provider of security awareness training and simulated phishing platform , finds that the UK workforce is ill-prepared to face today ’ s expanding cybersecurity threat landscape . Of a thousand recently furloughed employees , 41 % admitted that their company had never offered them a security awareness training course , while 14 % have gone as far as to say that their employer has not taken security seriously enough .
While a quarter ( 25 %) of organisations did implement added security measures such as multifactor authentication in the last six months , much still remains to be done ; particularly , when it comes to reinforcing the human firewall . Of those who did receive training , 29 % of respondents conceded that it had been at least six months or more since the last training course . This is concerning as 42 % of respondents chose to sort through their emails quickly upon return to work in an effort to get back to business as usual ; therefore , increasing the likelihood of an individual falling victim to a phishing attack .
Javvad Malik , Security Awareness Advocate at KnowBe4 , said : “ Bad actors often look to leverage the fear and uncertainty of today ’ s circumstances to trick unsuspecting individuals . As such , it is pivotal that an organisation ’ s security strategy includes on-going security awareness training .”
