New standard brings clarity on cybersecurity to SMEs
With 2021 expected to be the worst year on record for cyberattacks , the CIO Strategy Council has published a new standard that will help smaller businesses protect their systems from intruders .
“ A successful cyberattack can have major impacts on smaller companies , including stress and financial loss , compromised banking information and negative effects on business relationships . SMEs have invested on average CA $ 6,700 in upgrading their IT infrastructure , but last year 61,000 of them still became victims of cyberfraud ,” said Dan Kelly , President and CEO , Canadian Federation of Independent Business .
The new standard , supported by the Standards Council of Canada ( SCC ), will form part of the requirements for CyberSecure Canada , a voluntary certification programme established by Innovation , Science and Economic Development ( ISED ) and the Communications Security Establishment ( CSE ) to help SMEs achieve a reasonable level of cybersecurity .
Nuvolo brings Connected Workplace solution to SMEs

Nuvolo has announced that its single cloud-based solution , Connected Workplace , is now available to SMBs . Connected Workplace for SMB provides Nuvolo ’ s flagship solution to smaller organisations in a variety of markets including healthcare , life sciences , retail , commercial , higher education and manufacturing .

Sage has shared updates to its Sage Accounting banking service . Addressing small business pain points and making it easier for accountants to run their practice , these updates remove the complexity of importing transactional data . The new features further automate the way customers reconcile their banking and accounting data , supporting customers and accountants with a live and accurate view of business performance .
“ It ’ s well known that data entry is the biggest admin
task for small businesses . These improvements will help our customers simplify the bank reconciliation process ,” said Neal Watkins , EVP Small Segment , Sage .
“ Listening to our customers ’ feedback helps us to build the technology that best meets their needs . In turn , removing friction from our customers and accountants ’ business will help them to save time , simplify and automate the data entry process – which in turn helps with increased accuracy .”
