Phil Pomford , SVP & General Manager , Global eCom , APAC at Worldpay from FIS , talks to us about his most memorable achievement , his management philosophy and major areas of investment within the finance space .

cCan you tell us more about your company and day-to-day role ?

FIS is a leading provider of technology solutions for financial institutions and businesses of all sizes and across any industry globally . Through our Worldpay portfolio , FIS processes 75 billion transactions topping US $ 9 trillion for 20,000 + clients annually .
I head up Worldpay from FIS in APAC . I ’ ve been with the company for over 10 years , in various leadership roles but , currently , I oversee commercial strategy for the e-commerce division and I am responsible for ensuring client success in the region . It is exciting to be able to leverage innovations in the payments sector , such as embedded finance , crypto and digital wallets , to enable seamless experiences for merchants and consumers across the region and the globe .
What would you describe as your most memorable achievement ? connected on a personal and professional level while working remotely . We had a strong focus on building team dynamics , morale and engagement while integrating the two businesses .
Like many companies , we needed to get creative in how we brought our team together to promote this inclusive culture . One way we did this was by introducing initiatives such as our regional-wide Culture Clubs – these encompass multiple initiatives focused on driving collaboration across the region and promoting social and community activities and are still a big part of our company .
So , my most memorable achievement would be the culture we have created over the past few years . The team has been able to flourish in this positive environment and I am excited to see how everyone continues to grow .
What style of management philosophy do you employ in your current position ?
I like to manage by giving my teams freedom and control over their activity . They are hired because they are brilliant at what they do – micromanaging is not needed or effective in our office . I prefer to work with my teams and provide strategic feedback to ensure we are achieving the best results possible . This also means helping my team solve obstacles so that they can focus on achieving their goals .
I also like working one-on-one with my team to help them achieve their personal career goals alongside team ones . Personal
