What’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR)
The EU General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) is effective
across the European Union (EU) from 25th May 2018.
o It supersedes the 28-member states national data protection
laws based on the 1995 Data Protection Directive (DPD).
o Any company that stores or processes personal information
about the EU citizens within the EU states must follow the GDPR,
even if they do not have a business presence within the EU.
Specific criteria for companies required to comply are:
o A presence in an EU country.
o No presence in the EU, but it processes personal data of
European residents.
o More than 250 employees.
