Southern Cross and Ciena launch 400GbE services on NEXT cable

S has announced the availability of commercial 400GbE services on its Southern Cross NEXT (‘ NEXT ’) cable , between Australia , New Zealand and the US .

Laurie Miller , CEO of Southern Cross , said the introduction of what is believed to be Australasia ’ s first international 400GbE services and the current world ’ s longest single system data centre to data centre 400GbE services , is a game-changer for customers .
“ With the Southern Cross NEXT cable system , the new technology and capability has been designed to support the rising demand for bandwidth driven by cloud adoption and digitisation . We are now thrilled to be able to offer 400GbE Layer 1 services as the first of several planned innovations taking advantage of the Southern Cross ecosystem and the new NEXT cable .” extremely large and resilient volumes of data are required to traverse core network infrastructure for data replication , data storage connectivity and Disaster Recovery .”
Southern Cross ’ 400GbE service runs on Ciena ’ s 6500 Packet- Optical Platform powered by WaveLogic 5 Extreme coherent optics and is managed by the Manage , Control and Plan ( MCP ) domain controller . To accommodate increasing and changing network traffic demands , Southern Cross ’ ecosystem also incorporates Ciena ’ s 5400 and 8700 platforms , providing the ability to deploy services from 100Mbs now up to 400GbE connectivity over applicable wavelengths .

TOWARDEX completes open access utility entrance for CoreSite ’ s Boston data centre

the Massachusetts Internet Exchange ( MASS IX ), has announced the completion of one of the region ’ s first open access utility entrance solutions for fibre optic networks in CoreSite ’ s Boston data centre .
The new fibre optic corridor known as the Hub Express System , provides a hyperscale network of underground conduits to accommodate installations of more than 135 additional fibre optic cables by carriers , substantially increasing the area ’ s digital infrastructure capabilities for interconnected data centres and delivers a foundation for the continued growth of Internet traffic throughout New England .
“ CoreSite ’ s Boston data centre is one of the most interconnected buildings in New England today , offering access to leading cloud , IT and network providers , like TOWARDEX ,” said Matt Gleason , VP General Management for CoreSite . “ With the completion of this additional utility entrance , CoreSite continues to expand our already robust connectivity ecosystem with new telecommunications providers and networks .”
During the development of the Hub Express System , TOWARDEX and CoreSite collaborated to enable open access entry into the data centre by all interested telecommunications providers in a competitively neutral and non-discriminatory environment .
The companies constructed a new utility entrance and lateral trench , installing 68 conduits as well as building penetrations for fibre optic cables . The new entrance facilities are operated by TWDX Infrastructure , LLC , a wholly-owned subsidiary of TOWARDEX . �
