Panduit provides sustainable data centre solutions for Latin America

Becoming sustainable is one of the priorities for global companies . Aiming at the UN Agenda 2030 , there has been a business trend towards adopting intelligent and sustainable solutions that contributes to Digital Transformation while preserving and caring for the environment .

This increase in Digital Transformation implies a need for data transmission and processing supported by data centres , whose main challenge is the reduction and efficiency of energy consumption .
Fábio Henrique , Regional Director , Panduit for Central and South America and the Caribbean , said : “ With the COVID-19 pandemic , the acceleration of Digital Transformation has been of great importance for business development and has increased the need for sustainable solutions . Colombia is one of the fastest growing countries in this area and Panduit is contributing to reducing customers ’ energy consumption .”
In Colombia , about 49 % of companies use some technology in their sustainability plans , according to the Sustainability Agenda of SAP ’ s Latin American leadership .
In this sense , Panduit confirms that one of the biggest challenges in reducing energy consumption in data centres is in the management and optimisation of cooling systems , as they represent approximately 50 % of the total energy consumption and are essential for the proper functioning of data centres of any size .
According to the International Energy Agency ( IEA ), data centres consume about 200 terawatts per hour , representing 1 % of the global electricity demand , generating approximately 0.3 % of the carbon footprint .
However , there are some alternatives to address this challenge . According to Panduit , the passive cooling
technologies in data centres can help reduce electricity consumption by up to 40 %, leading to a significant reduction in the carbon footprint .
In 2020 , requests for information on technologies to support sustainability ceased due to the crises generated by the pandemic . After that , with some problems resolved and the subsequent economic recovery , about 40 % of organisations sought to implement sustainability model technologies to help complement Digital Transformation projects without neglecting the environmental aspect and the reduction of energy resources .
Implementing solutions that address climate change will be vitally important for the technology industry as data centre deployments continue to increase . According to Panduit , a 23 % growth in colocation data centres is expected in the region by the end of 2022 .
