Intelligent Data Centres caught up with Prashant Menon , Manager of IT Infrastructure and Support Services , Metito , to find out more about the benefits and efficiencies of the implementation .
Please can you tell us about your role in the business and the part you played in the implementation process ?
I am the IT Infrastructure and Support Manager for Metito , a global leader and provider of choice for total intelligent water management solutions , with operations covering three business areas : design and build , specialty chemicals , and utilities . With over 60 years ’ experience in over 46 countries , the group provides customised , comprehensive and advanced solutions across the full spectrum of its industry ; from clean to dirty water ; desalination and re-use ; industrial solutions ( up to hyper pure water ); investing into water and wastewater assets ; and structuring both Greenfield and Brownfield schemes under project finance structures .
The group also provides custom alternative energy development and management solutions for utilities and corporations looking to uphold sustainable operations through generating clean , emissions-free energy .
As for my involvement with the Flash Storage project , it was from inception to implementation . We thoroughly compared various brands until deciding on the most suitable product for Metito , taking all aspects into consideration . We particularly focused on advances in technology , manageability , efficiencies in user interface , customer service / technical support and overall ROI .
What storage challenges were you experiencing prior to implementation ?
Previously , we were working with legacy storages based on 7.5 , 10 and 15K spinning drives which lacked performance , were very complex to manage and were extremely expensive to upgrade and thereby maintain .
How has the Pure Storage solution enabled smoother performance and increased profitability ?
We experienced immediate efficiencies – having installation and configuration being finalised within a few hours and since implementation ( over a year ago ), we have seen ongoing savings in time and seamless performance .
Pure ’ s compression and deduplication features enabled us to completely decommission the old storage and avoid expensive support agreements while moving to Flash Storage with much improved performance . This was obvious in the decrease of users ’ turnaround time
