PROJECT FOCUS MENA Kalaam Telecom Group has announced the launch of Kalaam Network Optical Transit (KNOT), a new fibreoptic terrestrial international cable system that enhances regional and international connectivity in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA). The KNOT terrestrial fibre-optic cable system will span over 1,400km, providing capacity of 12.8 Terabits per second and beyond with lowest latency connectivity to the MENA region. APAC Keppel Capital, the asset management arm of Singapore’s conglomerate Keppel Group, has agreed to invest 1.5 billion yuan (US$213.8 million) to build a data centre in Huizhou, China. The data centre, located in Tonghu Smart City, will have a gross floor area (GFA) of 45,000 sqm (486,700 sq ft) when construction is completed in 2022. www.intelligentdatacentres.com Issue 19 27
