Learning and development disconnect between women in tech and employers

Skillsoft has released new research exploring the current state of women in tech , including the challenges and barriers to inclusion they face and how employers can better support them . is a major benefit for employers and employees alike as it can help fill crucial shortages and skills gaps and put women on a path for career advancement .

Findings from Skillsoft ’ s 2021 Women in Tech Report reveal that while female employees have gained hard-fought ground in the workplace , a large gap still exists when it comes to opportunities for professional development and career advancement .
According to the report , there is a misalignment between the workplace benefits women in tech are seeking and what is currently being provided . For example , while 86 % of respondents cited opportunities for professional development and training as extremely or very important to them , just 42 % said their employers currently offer this as a benefit .
Additionally , when asked about the top challenges they have faced while pursuing a tech-related career , nearly a third of women surveyed ( 32 %) pointed to a lack of training .
With Skillsoft ’ s recent IT Skills and Salary Report finding that 76 % of organisations currently face skills gaps in their IT departments , providing opportunities for training and professional development

What Gen Z and Millennials look for in the labour market

Zenjob has released its Future of Work survey , which looks at the needs of young employees . The digital staffing platform strives to contribute to better matchmaking between companies and the future workforce .

From the outside looking in , Gen Z ' s relationship towards their work ethic is complex and not always coherent . The generation is split within itself between the desire for fixed working hours ( 50 %) and the need for flexibility ( 50 %).
While 78 % of Gen Z ( and 81 % of Millennials ) want to separate their professional and private lives , 70 % ( 58 % of Millennials ) claim they have no problem being available for their employers , even during annual leave .
Frederik Fahning , Co-founder and Managing Director of Zenjob , said : " Our study clearly shows that attitude and values are at the forefront for the employees of tomorrow .
" They want their employer to live and breathe these values and give them room for their own lives , personal development and participation in the company ' s further development .”
Just 83 % of Gen Z and 84 % of Millennials want to organise their time themselves to work at their own pace . However , this kind of self-organisation does seem to introduce some challenges for the young workforce .
One in two members of Gen Z and 58 % of Millennials said that they do not always succeed in doing so .
