A recent study commissioned by
Barracuda revealed 87% of IT security
professionals said their company had

The study included responses from
634 executives, individual contributors

and APAC. Overall, the research
indicates that email threats continue to
increase and the impact on staff and
productivity is escalating.

Defending the mail
Email is built into almost everything –
from smartphones to automobiles and
each day around 280 million emails
travel around the world. Unfortunately,
email was not designed with any privacy
or security in mind, making it highly
vulnerable to attackers for malware
delivery, phishing and infiltration into
critical systems.
In its most basic form, email is easy
to abuse as data is transferred in
clear text over the public Internet and
spoofing of sender addresses is trivial.
It’s also the number one transport for
files and links with malicious intent
such as ransomware, phishing and
good old-fashioned fraud. As the most
targeted business communication tool
with the largest potential for damage,
organisations have been quick to deploy
at least the basic security controls.
