Interestingly , but possibly unsurprisingly , Acronis recently revealed that the average cost of data breaches is expected to surpass US $ 5 million per incident this year . On page 18 , we explore the findings of the report which delves into the cyberthreat landscape – in particular , ransomware threats , phishing , malicious websites , software vulnerabilities and a security forecast for the months ahead .
One of the focal points of this month ’ s issue and for businesses globally is ransomware and on page 36 , we get to grips with why it is the biggest cyberthreat in 2023 . Steve Forbes , Government Cybersecurity Expert , Nominet , offers his best practice advice for business leaders to protect their assets and prepare in advance for attacks of this sort , which are only set to increase .
The changing nature of the CISO has been a hot discussion point as of late and will continue that way for some time . Our ‘ Expert Opinion ’ piece this month comes from Alain Sanchez , EMEA Field CISO , and Daniel Kwong , SEAHK Field CISO at Fortinet , who discuss why strategy is so important for the CISO to keep in mind when demonstrating business value , particularly as they are expected to adapt their strategies to stay ahead of the curve .
On page 44 , we shine a spotlight on the education sector and establish how it is combatting the ongoing issue of cyberattacks and why it remains a target . Following the recent news that 14 UK schools became the victim of a major cyberattack , Achi Lewis , Area VP EMEA for Absolute Software , discusses the dangers posed to the education sector and how to prevent and respond to them .
