Kaspersky and INTERPOL thwart a cyber-robbery in a central bank in Latin America

oint efforts by Kaspersky

J and INTERPOL helped to prevent cybercriminals from stealing funds from a central bank in Latin America .

Kaspersky experts discovered the incident when the attackers were attempting to find partners to help them conduct additional malicious activity . This sort of scheme has become particularly common over the past few years , wherein different groups are responsible for different stages of an attack . There are those that initially penetrate the victims ’ systems , those
that conduct the actual attack ( e . g ., encrypt and steal data ), and those that demand the ransom and manage the financial aspect of the attack .
Kaspersky discovered the data , that was offered by the attackers to third parties as evidence that they had access to the organisation . The experts analysed the stolen data and found out that the attackers were able to gain access to the entire infrastructure of the Latin American central bank , including the systems for international money transfers . To prevent any further malicious activity , Kaspersky promptly notified INTERPOL and the International Payments Framework about the attack . After conducting a joint investigation , all vulnerabilities in the corporate networks of the bank were closed and any opportunities for additional attacks were blocked .

Venari Security establishes a new Tunis Centre of Excellence

enari Security , a Londonbased cybersecurity company ,

V has announced the opening of its Centre of Excellence in Tunis , Tunisia . The centre will become a hub for more than 20 talented development , research and cyber specialists , representing the start of Venari Security ’ s significant investment in the region .

The company plans to double the size of its workforce in Tunis in 2022 , increasing to over 40 employees and generating new opportunities for cybersecurity specialists . The team will develop Venari Security ’ s Encrypted Traffic Analysis ( ETA ) platform . Without decryption , the platform leverages Artificial Intelligence , Machine Learning and behavioural analytics , allowing organisations to better understand their encrypted traffic attack surface by detecting abnormal behaviour and adhering to internal and regulatory compliance .
Regulations worldwide are driving massive uptake in end-to-end encryption to support customer data privacy while in transit and at rest . Just 62 % of the top 1,000 global websites now support the TLS 1.3 , ensuring full end-to-end encryption . While encryption provides privacy and regulatory compliance , risks remain with the organisation . Attackers can still breach the organisation ’ s perimeter , enabling them to move undetected through an organisation ’ s network . Venari Security helps organisations gain unrivalled visibility into activity on their encrypted networks to help them remain compliant and identify suspicious behaviour .
