Posture Management market leader , has announced the results of a survey , revealing that despite the increase in the number of attacks this past year , overall victims suffered limited damage in both severity and duration .
“ This latest survey is critical in helping us understand that while we may be experiencing increased anxiety from the rise in ransomware , we have also learned lessons and can both prevent attacks and recover far quicker than before ,” said Eyal Wachsman , CEO and Co-founder of Cymulate .
“ Organisations still need to remain vigilant as ransomware continues to strike every sector and every size organisation . Security teams need to ensure current controls are effective and conduct basic cyberhygiene to prevent further damage .”
Research taken from nearly 900 enterprise professionals across 14 sectors worldwide highlighted that the majority of respondents undertook proactive measures to prevent the attack before it could cause any significant damage and the vast majority of those even before it could cause any serious downtime . There was little difference in the size of organisations that ransomware targeted , affecting both large and small companies alike .

This is an industry body dedicated to creating a safer digital environment through policy advisory and support , mentorship , education and best practice sharing , and research .

“ Addressing cybersecurity in a hyperconnected digital world requires collective commitment and action – and the Cybersecurity Digital Alliance was born from the recognition that we can achieve more if we use a pool of talent and shared experiences to enable a more cybersecure South Africa ,” said Kerissa Varma , Chairperson , Cybersecurity Digital Alliance and Managing Executive , Cybersecurity at Vodacom .
The definition and scope of cybersecurity continues to expand as the cyber-risk landscape evolves rapidly , with more sophisticated attack vectors from a greater number of bad actors – intensified by changes to modern workplaces and lifestyles , which have created a wider and deeper security threat landscape than ever before .
“ Research widely shows that cybercrime has become more prevalent in South Africa since the onset of the pandemic and the widespread move to working , learning and transacting online ,” said Mandla Ngcobo , Deputy Director General : Chief Information Officer at the Department of Public Service and Administration and Founding Member of the Cybersecurity Digital Alliance .
“ This makes it vital for cybersecurity leaders from across sectors to bring their skills and expertise together to assist with the complex modern digital environment and ensure the safety of public and private sector organisations , as well as South African citizens ,” said Ngcobo .
The Cybersecurity Digital Alliance will aim to do this by : supporting policy interventions and innovation around relevant national guidelines , regulations , strategies , legislation and laws surrounding technology use ; facilitating best practice sharing from across different backgrounds , skillsets and specialisations ; educating and driving research into developing areas ; as well as providing mentorship to members . u www . intelligentciso . com
