Police are warning that a growing number of scams are appearing which can leave people facing substantial phone bills or give hackers access to personal bank accounts . A cybercriminal group has posted what it claims are documents stolen from Hackney Council in a ransomware attack which took place last year . The council in East London was hit by what it described as a ‘ serious cyberattack ’ in October . Tim Mackey , Synopsys CyRC , said : “ Whenever an organisation is in the position of dealing with a demand of ransom from a cyberattack , the time for securing data has passed . At best , there is a hope the attackers will do as they state and not release the data .”
