EUROPE
Cybersecurity researchers at Proofpoint have observed
that the prolific botnet Emotet has returned to the email
threat landscape after a three and a half month hiatus.
The Trojan-turned-botnet had proved to be one of the
most widely distributed attacks over the past 12 months
and the latest resurgence has seen organisations in
Austria, Switzerland, Germany, Spain, the UK, Italy,
Poland and the US targeted.
Sherrod DeGrippo, Senior Director of Threat Research
and Detection, Proofpoint, said the company would
continue to monitor for changes in payload, TTPs, etc,
going forward.
GLOBAL
The number of phishing attacks
targeting users of Mac computers,
iOS-based mobile devices and the
associated web services ecosystem to lure them
into fraudulent schemes reached 1.6 million in
the first half of 2019.
This figure is around 9% greater than attacks
experienced in the whole of 2018. The growing
number of users of popular digital devices is
clearly attracting more and more cybercriminals.
This is one of key finding of Kaspersky’s Threats to
Mac Users Report 2019.
