threat updates MIDDLE EAST AND ASIA Kaspersky Lab technologies automatically detected a new exploited vulnerability in the Microsoft Windows OS kernel. The exploited vulnerability (CVE-2018-8611) was found in malware targeting a small number of victims in the Middle East and Asia. The vulnerability was found in the kernel mode module of the operating system. It was reported to Microsoft, which released a patch. GLOBAL Researchers at Check Point, a leading provider of cybersecurity solutions globally, shared details of vulnerabilities that could have affected any player of the hugely popular online battle game, Fortnite. If exploited, the vulnerability would have given an attacker full access to a user’s account and their personal information as well as enabling them to purchase virtual in-game currency using the victim’s payment card details. The vulnerability would also have allowed attackers to listen to and record in-game chat as well as surrounding sounds and conversations within the victim’s home or other location of play.
