Welcome to the latest edition of Intelligent

CIO magazine for the North America region . This month ’ s cover story features Darryl Polk , Chief Innovation Officer for Rancho Cucamonga . With the Californian city looking to replace its legacy backup it turned to Veeam to modernize data protection by simplifying backup , increasing recovery speed by 99 % and ensuring public safety information is available around the clock .
“ Keeping life-saving information available to residents is a top priority during a pandemic ,” said Darryl Polk , Chief Innovation Officer for Rancho Cucamonga . “ Downtime isn ’ t acceptable in today ’ s world , and certainly not during COVID-19 . This is when cities must have complete faith in their data protection strategy – we have complete faith because of Veeam .”
Rancho Cucamonga deployed Veeam Availability Suite as the IT team began modernizing the IT infrastructure . Legacy backup had been complicated , requiring the team to monitor backup for 40 hours each month . Recovery had been time consuming too , taking hours or days to recover from tape .
“ Only one solution fitted our roadmap for modernizing the IT infrastructure ,” Polk said . “ Our team has 100 years of combined IT experience , so we knew exactly what we wanted : fast , easy data protection .” To find out more turn to p56 .
Elsewhere in the magazine , we look at how Californiabased processor developer AMD has selected Skuid to boost its growth and enhance forecasting with benefits including increased visibility and greater efficiency .
John Stage , Senior Manager of Business Operations , and his team had significant customization needs and traditional coding was not feasible within their aggressive timeline .
“ Skuid is very flexible ,” Stage said . “ We quickly realized that we needed to take its capabilities into account when designing the architecture of our new system . The possibilities using Skuid and Salesforce together were so great .” You can find out more about the project by turning to p61 .
In this month ’ s Talking Business we take a look at why CIOs need to double down on customer experience innovation . Martin Taylor , Deputy CEO and Co-founder at Content Guru , says CIOs need to use data to drive enhanced collaboration across the enterprise in order to exceed customer expectations and stay one step ahead of demand .
“ Customer experience ( CX ) has been steadily rising up the corporate agenda in recent years and with good reason ,” he says . “ High-performing companies that consistently outperform their peers do so because they put customer-centricity at the heart of everything that they do .” To read more of his opinions please turn to p36 .
