EDITOR’S NOTE
Welcome to the first-ever edition of
Intelligent CIO magazine for the
North America region.
This is the latest addition to the everexpanding
Lynchpin Media stable and the
magazine will bring you the latest news,
opinions and in-depth case studies looking at
the most cutting-edge implementations.
Our inaugural cover story showcases
Jesse Fasolo, Director of Technology and
Information Security, at St. Joseph’s Health.
He tells us he turned to Pure Storage for
dramatically faster performance when
faced with ageing storage that negatively
impacted hospital operations.
It was Fasolo’s job to create a future-ready
IT foundation to help clinicians and staff
work more efficiently and storage was a
critical piece of the puzzle.
“Out of all the competitors, Pure Storage had
the right technology to take us into the future,”
he said. “And it was something I wouldn’t
have to turn around and replace right away.
“Not having to focus on storage has allowed
us to shift our priorities from firefighting
to service excellence and a more proactive
approach to IT.”
You can find out more, including further
detail about how the deployment is
boosting performance and reliability, by
turning to p56.
Elsewhere in the magazine we hear how
Methodist Health System, which serves
the metropolitan-Omaha area in Nebraska,
has gained cost predictability with Cohesity
on Cisco UCS.
The health network deployed the jointly
developed Cohesity on Cisco UCS data
management solution for modern backup
as well as Disaster Recovery to take
advantage of more granular reporting,
scale-out architecture and fast restores.
Kevin Rue, Senior Systems Engineer at
Methodist Health System, told us: “One of
our biggest challenges used to be reporting.
We like the granularity of the new solution’s
reporting, for example, to see how much
time server backup is taking, limits on space
and change tension, so we know where to
adjust settings to make improvements.”
For further insight turn to p61.
We also hear from Jacqui Guichelaar,
Senior Vice President and CIO at Cisco.
In our CIO Opinion slot, she discusses the
recent Cisco survey in which CIOs reveal
their fears, strengths and strategies for
coping with the pandemic.
She tells us: “I’m incredibly proud of how my
team responded to the crisis. But I’m also
proud of the IT industry – CIOs and their
teams have all but kept the world running
through the lockdown, while enabling
Business Continuity, health care and other
vital functions to continue.”
Turn to p44 for more – including how she
thinks the CIO/CTO role is expanding to have
greater impact in their organizations and
across their industries.
