MBZUAI appoints Professor Fakhreddine Karray as the new Provost

Professor Fakhreddine Karray , Provost , MBZUAI
Professor Karray will work closely with Professor Eric Xing , President , MBZUAI , to develop the institution ’ s academic and research strategy and implementation plans towards accomplishing the university ’ s mission and vision .
Professor Karray joins MBZUAI from the University of Waterloo in Canada , where he most recently served as the founding codirector of the Waterloo Artificial Intelligence Institute . He is also the founding co-director of the Centre for Pattern Analysis and Machine Intelligence in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Waterloo . Additionally , he has held the Loblaws Research Chair in Artificial Intelligence .
Professor Xing said : “ I would like to welcome Professor Karray to MBZUAI . His considerable experience and expertise in AI will strengthen our research and teaching capabilities and raise the university ’ s profile . From the beginning , our objective was to bring the best AI talent to Abu Dhabi and this appointment aligns with that goal .”

The Mohamed bin Zayed University of Artificial Intelligence ( MBZUAI ), a graduate-level , research university focused on AI , has named Professor Fakhreddine ( Fakhri ) Karray as its new Provost .

Professor Karray is a globally recognised researcher with interests in operational Artificial Intelligence , cognitive machines , natural humanmachine interaction , autonomous and intelligent systems .

Medcare implements InterSystems TrakCare Unified Healthcare Information System

Medcare Hospitals and Medical Centres , the UAE ’ s premium healthcare provider , has announced it is embarking on its Digital Transformation journey after it implemented InterSystems TrakCare unified healthcare information systems at its hospital in Sharjah .

Through the strategic partnership , InterSystems is set to deploy TrakCare- Asa-Service electronic medical record system ( EMR ) across Medcare ’ s four hospitals and 16 medical centres .
TrakCare- As-a-Service is a private cloudhosted EMR service that follows an OPEX model based on subscriptions . The system enables hospitals and clinics to achieve their clinical and financial objectives without making major upfront capital expenditures .
Dr Yehia El Gabbani , Chief Operating Officer , Medcare Hospital Sharjah , said : “ We are committed to delivering outstanding patient care and exceptional clinical services in our communities . We strongly believe that adopting innovations and world-class technologies will renovate our patient experience and units ’ operations . We implemented InterSystems TrakCare to improve the clinical outcomes and patient care delivery which in return will help us strengthen our patient safety and privacy , patient record availability and reduce the overall waiting time .”
Ali Abi Raad , Country Manager for the Middle East and India at InterSystems , said : “ We are pleased with the successful go-live of TrakCare at Medcare Hospital Sharjah in a record seven months ’ time and we are on track to deploy TrakCare- As-a-Service at its four hospitals and 16 medical centres .”
