NEWS Egypt and Kuwait to arrest and hand over cybercrime suspects under new agreement Sadek told Egypt’s state news agency MENA that Egypt and Kuwait will hand over suspects to each other should one of the countries request the arrest of suspected cybercriminals based in the other country. “Since crime has become more complex and cross-border, no country can effectively confront it alone,” said Sadek. E gypt and Kuwait have made an agreement to co-operate in dealing with cybercriminals deemed a threat to national security. The agreement, announced by Kuwait is one of Egypt’s close Gulf allies and the deal is intended to boost joint judicial co-operation to combat all forms of crime, facilitate the exchange of information and speed up the handover of suspects. Egypt’s Prosecutor-General Nabil Sadek, will accelerate legal proceedings against cybercriminals and clamp down on those suspects wanted by both countries. The agreement will also develop the use of technology by members of the judiciary to stay on top of methods used by criminals. ///////////////// Plan to launch Kuwait as regional data centre revealed S alem Al-Uzania, Board Chairman of Kuwait’s Public Authority for Communication and Information Technology, has spoken in favour of transforming Kuwait into a data centre region. Al-Uzania, in a statement to the Kuwait News Agency, has confirmed that the authority, as part of its strategy for the future, is seeking to make Kuwait a regional data centre in line with the country’s Vision 2035 blueprint. He made the comments on the sidelines of the Huawei Connect 2019 Tech4All Summit, which had a theme of ‘How Inclusive Innovation Can Empower the World’. The Kuwaiti Authority will soon sign a deal with the Iraqi Ministry of Communications to establish the Regional Communication Passageway that will connect Iraq with Kuwait and the two countries with Europe. He also revealed that the authority is also planning to establish a national data and information centre. During the Huawei event Al-Uzania discussed the regional corridor for communications to be in tandem with China’s Silk Road enterprise.
