EDITOR’S NOTE
W
elcome to the latest edition of
Intelligent CIO Kuwait. This issue
we feature a fascinating interview
with Mohammad Amin Hasbini, Head of
Global Research and Global Analysis team
for META, Kaspersky Lab.
We met up with him at the company’s
Cyber Security Weekend in Cape Town and
requested we talk about the cybersecurity
scene in Kuwait. It goes without saying that
as part of the Middle East region Kuwait is
not immune to the threat of cybercriminals.
However, what we really wanted to find out
was whether there were any threats specific
to Kuwait or if circumstances there were any
different to the rest of the region.
about how the telecommunications industry
has been transforming and the most difficult
challenges likely to be thrown up by the
development of 5G.
We also discussed his approach to
management and, in particular, how he
seeks to empower members of his team.
He told us: “For my team I empower them. I
trust them and give them direction to work
collaboratively with all stakeholders and
team members.
“I have to be very adoptive and agile rather
than just be bureaucratic. So being a team
player is critical to my managerial style.”
Without intending to provide a spoiler for the
interview itself, it’s safe to say that Hasbini
uncovered some interesting intelligence
which you can discover for yourself by
turning to page 29. Ayub was the first employee to be hired
by VIVA (Kuwaiti Telecommunications
Company) and you can find out more about
his approach to management by turning to
page 37.
Elsewhere in the issue, you can find an
exclusive interview with Muhammad Ayub,
Director for Business Support Systems for
VIVA. Among the topics discussed, we spoke Elsewhere, we get to know Maged El
Serougy, the General Manager for Kuwait
for Schneider Electric, a little better. He tells
us about his most memorable achievement,

management philosophy and how he likes to
unwind outside of the workplace.
He describes his managerial style as ‘open
office’ and he tells us about his belief in the
need for constant communications. He says:
“I believe that effective managers need to
take a hands-on approach to building high
performance teams.”

what he considers to be the current hot
technology talking point and what first made
him think of a career in technology.
