Cybercriminals are seeking to
misuse cryptocurrency as they aim
to take advantage of their nefarious
activities. Blackberry is one example
of a company that is working to
prevent the abuse of Blockchain by
introducing preventative methods
to detect attacks.
Blockchain is recognised globally as a cryptocurrency
exchange system which is used to securely trade
cryptocurrencies that record transactions between
parties. However, the system is often misused by
cybercriminals who seek to use it for their own gain.
An example of this is hackers causing disruption to a number of
high-profile Twitter accounts to request donations to the
cryptocurrency, Bitcoin.
Twitter stated: “We detected what we believe to be a coordinated
social engineering attack by people who successfully targeted some of
our employees with access to internal systems and tools.
“We know they used this access to take control of many highly-visible
(including verified) accounts and tweet on their behalf. We’re looking
into what other malicious activity they may have conducted or
information they may have accessed.
