Scality, a leader in software solutions
for global data orchestration and
distributed file and object storage, has
announced an investment in Fondation
Inria, the foundation of the well-known
French national research institute for digital
sciences, Inria. Bringing both financial
backing and collaboration to the institute,
Scality will help support multi-disciplinary
research and innovation initiatives. This
includes mind-body health, precision
agriculture, neurodegenerative diagnostics,
privacy protection and more.
“To be at the forefront of technological
advancements and research has been a
priority for Scality since our inception and
we currently hold 10 patents. It only made
sense for us to deepen our relationship with
one of the most advanced research institutes
on AI and algorithms in the world,” said
Jérôme Lecat, Scality CEO and Co-founder.
“We believe that technology and digital
sciences can provide answers to the issues
facing our fractured global society. Inria
research teams work on incredible projects
that actually change lives with personalised
medicine, precision agriculture, sustainable
development, Smart Cities and mobility and
security and privacy protection.”
Scality has been close to Inria for
many years and is involved with several
collaborative research projects that are
developing new concepts for distributed and
scalable storage with Inria Distinguished
Research Scholar, Marc Shapiro. One such
project is RainbowFS which investigates an
approach to distributed storage that ensures
distributed consistency semantics tailored to
applications in order to develop smarter and
massively scalable systems.
Teleste Corporation and a leading
international rail vehicle construction
company, Stadler, have agreed on
deliveries of Teleste’s passenger
information and CCTV systems to
Stadler’s new FLIRT trains for Norwegian
State Railways. The deliveries will take
place until 2021, continuing the cooperation
between Teleste and Stadler,
that was started in 2009.
The deployment will include onboard
passenger information (PIS)
and CCTV systems for more than
20 trains complemented with video
security cameras and video recorders,
intercommunication and public address
systems, as well as TFT and LED
information displays. The flexible and
future-proof system works seamlessly
together with the existing PIS systems,
delivered during earlier stages of the cooperation
and includes upgrades such as
enhanced cybersecurity.
“Today, transport operators and rolling
stock manufacturers need to stay at
the cutting edge of on-board
technologies to deliver an excellent
travel experience for the growing
number of public transport users who
wish to be informed about their travel
at every step of the journey. We are
pleased that we have been able to fulfil
Stadler’s requirements for high-quality
delivery of passenger information on
its trains to Norway, and we are looking
forward to continuing our co-operation,”
stated Jörn Grasse, Vice President of Rail
Information Solutions at Teleste.
