EDITOR’S NOTE
W
elcome to the latest and final
edition of Intelligent CIO Europe
for 2019. This year, we have
witnessed the successful evolution of the
cloud and how enterprises are reaping the
benefits, as well as how business leaders are
working to close the cyberskills gap, offering
new and innovative opportunities. As always,
it has been an interesting year all round for
technology and I’ve no doubt, as we look to
the future, 2020 will follow suit.
This edition, we welcome the British Heart
Foundation’s Director of Technology
Engagement, Mary O’Callaghan, onto
the cover. O’Callaghan discusses how the
organisation’s migration to Microsoft Azure
with Rackspace has enabled it to achieve
IT modernisation to further appeal to its
users. The new solution has allowed the
organisation to support a more robust
website and power its online retail store.
Securing a distributed workforce was
top of mind for retail giant, Tesco, in
order to robustly protect its data. Luke
Fairless, Technology Director – Security
and Capability at Tesco, tells us how the
company is using an identity and access
management solution from OneLogin.
Following the theme of security, we hear
from Proofpoint’s Vice President of Northern
www.intelligentcio.com
Europe, Middle East & Africa, Keith Bird,
who discusses the criticality of having email
security to avoid being hacked. He tells us
how the company’s approach of educating
employees first aims to help enterprises
secure their infrastructure. Computing, who highlights some IT habits
that have the potential to play mischief with
a company’s data centre budget. Business
leaders therefore need to be aware of these
unhelpful habits in order to avoid turning
their IT departments into a disaster.
Energias de Portugal (EDP) also recognises
the importance of operating with a secure
approach and implemented a BitSight
solution to improve security performance
and build confidence among its stakeholders.
Paulo Moniz, CISO, EDP, tells us how the
solution has future-proofed operations and
about the significance of functioning using a
reliable security solution. This issue, we ‘Get To Know’ Oren Eini, CEO,
RavenDB, who tells us how he likes to relax
and unwind outside the office.
It’s not only IT infrastructure we should be
able to rely on for keeping us secure, having
a diverse workforce is also a requirement
for cybersecurity. We consider this as our
‘Editor’s Question’ and experts expand by
offering solutions to challenges surrounding
the topic.
We hear from: Matthew Buskell, Area Vice
President, Skillsoft; Adam Philpott, EMEA
President at McAfee; Thomas Parsons, Senior
Director - Tenable Research, Tenable, who
offer their opinions.
