EDITOR’S NOTE
W
elcome to the latest edition of
Intelligent CIO Europe where
we discuss technology and its
regional development. We highlight some of
the latest trends and hot topics being brought
to our attention by experts in the field.
Featuring on the cover this month is Virgin
Trains’ CIO, John Sullivan. He tells us about
the company’s journey to modernisation
and its focus on offering its customers
the most positive experience by radically
improving its services. Sullivan talks about
the implementation of ServiceNow’s solution
and how it has enhanced business success
and efficiency through its offering.
Also this month, we talked to David Boda,
Group Head of Information Security,
Camelot. Camelot is the licensed operator of
the UK’s National Lottery and Boda tells us
how he approaches cybersecurity challenges
to ensure the organisation stays cybersecure
and maintains its integrity.
Boda also touches on the skills shortage,
the vendor – end-user relationship, the
importance of ongoing training and what
makes a good CISO.
This month’s ‘Country Focus’ focuses on
the Netherlands and Robbert Hoeffnagel
www.intelligentcio.com
of Green IT Amsterdam, discusses the
findings of an energy storage project which
took place at the Johan Cruyff Arena in
Amsterdam and the implications of this for
the future of data centres.
Another talking point this month is the
launch of 5G and experts are concerned
about the potential security flaws that
come with it. Professionals place a spotlight
on some of the greatest risks facing 5G
networks as they begin to launch around the
world and how these risks can be limiting to
5G adoption.
This brings to our attention even more, the
need for an increased number of people to
take an interest in cybersecurity to help close
the cyberskills gap. With technology evolving
at the current rate, it brings with it security
risks and it is more important than ever that
businesses take steps to futureproof their
workforce. Bridget Kenyon, Global CISO at
Thales eSecurity, tells us that it is time for
organisations to truly embrace the diversity
debate to help bridge the skills gap.
perspective is that businesses will be able
to fully reap the rewards of versatility,
agility and flexibility if they have the right
measurements in place.
We ‘Get To Know’ Paul Anderson, Head of
UK and Ireland, Fortinet, on page 81 as he
lets us in on how he likes to relax and unwind
outside the office.
