EDITOR’S NOTE
W
elcome to the latest edition of
Intelligent CIO Europe. This
month, we feature Coopservice
Group, specialists in designing, provisioning
and managing integrated facility services for
businesses and communities worldwide, on
the cover. The company is Italy-based and
the story therefore features as our ‘Country
Focus’ this issue.
Coopservice Group’s CIO, Gianfranco Scocco,
discusses the reason behind implementing
Red Hat’s solution and some of the
benefits it has created such as improving
performance, accelerating delivery times and
enabling a more efficient way of working.
As ever, cybersecurity is a major focus for
discussion both within the industry and the
magazine. Approaching the subject rather
differently this month, we consider the
effects of the cyberskills shortage within
the UK and some of the ways to combat
this. James Lyne, Head of Research and
Development, SANS Institute, discusses how
schools should be going the extra mile to
immerse and educate pupils in the world of
cyber, on page 55.
Ali Neil, Director of International Security
Solutions at Verizon, continues the discussion
around cybersecurity on page 84. He talks
www.intelligentcio.com
about the current cyberthreat environment
and the re-think strategies CIOs need to
undertake to build a successful security
blueprint for 2019.
The customer should always be at the heart
of business decisions and this month, we
look at how technology is shaping their
experience. The digital consumer of the
modern age expects to have everything
always and enterprises should be doing all
they can to elevate the customer experience
to retain consumer interest and interaction.
‘Trending’ this month is a reflection on
Mobile World Congress 2019, an event which
demonstrated some major trends within the
industry. 5G is just one contributor helping
to pave the way to a digitised future and Jeff
Ready, CEO of Scale Computing, analyses
some of the trends set to revolutionise the
tech landscape.
With more and more data being utilised
than ever before, it is a good idea to
consider whether it is being managed
correctly. We caught up with three experts
who discuss how they think companies
could be doing more to protect consumer
data. Experts include Rob Otto, EMEA CTO,
Ping Identity; Ben Young, General Counsel
for Elastic Path; Andrzej Kawalec, Director
of Strategy and Technology, Europe
for Optiv.
The experts suggest having the right
process controls in place to protect data,
ensuring your data strategy recognises and
respects individual user consent to avoid
compromising customer trust, and how the
secure management of data can create long-
lasting relationships with customers – a crucial
aspect to successful business operations.
This month, we ‘Get To Know’ Sankar
Narayanan, Chief Practice Officer at Fractal,
who tells us how he likes to relax and unwind
outside the office.
