CASE STUDY The technology is a perfect fit for us and we wanted to work with a provider that would understand our business goals, therefore helping us to grow and deliver the best performance for our customers. 2. What were the noticeable improvements in comparison to the previous provider you used? We immediately noticed the increased capacity and are already supporting over 700 virtual machines (VMs) with plenty of space for several thousand more. Since deploying Tintri, we have eliminated the problem of running multiple workloads and have the simplified management we need to offer enhanced services to our customers. Tintri’s all-flash and software solutions have enabled us to offer increased speed and scalability in a solution that is easier to manage and provides complete flexibility and visibility. Tintri’s all-flash solution provides us with complete granular visibility and as a result we have a deeper insight into all of our VMs The more desktops we can deploy, the more business we can host. Scalability is one of the core reasons we opted for Tintri’s all-flash solution. With linear scalability, we are able to provide for our partners now and in the future. DaaS is only set to increase and it is important we can grow and scale, as and when needed. XtraDesktop’s IT team has already deployed 717 VMware Horizon desktops on the Tintri T820 system. The array is running at 56% capacity and 99.67% of IO is coming from flash with an average latency of just 0.72ms. We can host 2000 VMs on one of the Tintri all-flash units which means from a scaling perspective, we can deploy a greater volume of desktops without the need to replace the IT infrastructure. As a company that is continuing to expand, this flexibility provides us with the room we need to grow. Predicting growth and adding extra capacity can be both challenging and costly, but with Tintri we have peace of mind WE EVALUATED THE MARKET BUT NO OTHER VENDOR CAME CLOSE TO TINTRI’S ALL-FLASH AND SOFTWARE SOLUTIONS IN TERMS OF MANAGEABILITY AND FLEXIBILITY. with comprehensive statistics on latency, throughput and IOPS, which is something that our previous provider could not offer. We can now troubleshoot any performance issues quite easily saving us a great deal of time. In fact, ongoing management has dropped from several hours per week with the previous Atlantis solution, to almost zero. We have been able to add this time into other areas of the business, helping us to improve customer stratification and drive business value. We look to deliver optimal performance to our customers and the Tintri solution has enabled us to do this. 3. To what degree is the new system scalable and what advantages does this scalability provide XtraDesktop with? 70 INTELLIGENTCIO that we can continue to provide services now and in the future. 4. How long did the system take to implement? Implementing the Tintri solution was a very quick, easy and smooth process. It took us less than a day to get the solution out of the box and up and running, with installation taking less than an hour. 5. How did you know that Tintri’s storage systems would be best suited to you? I have a thorough understanding of the virtualisation and infrastructure industry and have been following Tintri for a number of years. Its technology maximises performance and is designed for virtualised workloads that manages each unique application. Unlike other providers, Tintri eliminates the traditional constraints around virtualisation to deliver maximum benefit. We have confidence in Tintri and did not look at any other providers. While many companies tend to create a shortlist and look at different options, we knew exactly what we wanted and how the Tintri solution works. We didn’t run a Proof of Concept (PoC) with any other vendor as no one else came close to the Tintri system. We purchased a Tintri solution for our DaaS production and after seeing how well the system performed on these workloads, we opted for another to add additional capacity to our environment. Our experience with Tintri has been great and we plan to use them for all our production workloads going forward. 6. What was it about the manageability/flexibility that attracted you to Tintri? When it comes to virtualisation, many organisations struggle with management and flexibility. These are two of the main challenges that Tintri’s all-flash and software solutions eliminate and it is great to be able to work with a provider that makes virtualisation and application performance easy. We no longer have to spend time managing IT infrastructure and can focus on driving true business value. The Tintri appliance does not require any extra training or certification and our team could easily use the solution as soon as it was in production. Many other providers require training and specific IT experts to operate the solution. This can be a challenge when problems occur, but with Tintri our team was able to easily learn with hands- on experience. Not only has this saved us time in terms of management, but we do not have to rely on a specific IT team that is dedicated to infrastructure management. 7. How does the analytic side of the solution work and what degree of insight does this provide? Tintri’s analytics provide real time insight into each application, the technology is designed to enable users to troubleshoot and identify problems in seconds. We are also able to see up to 18 months into the future, which allows us to easily plan for future workloads, taking into account performance and capacity.
