IMDA announces S $ 30 million 5G fund for Singapore

Authority ( IMDA ) has announced a new S $ 30 million fund to accelerate the adoption and commercialisation of 5G solutions in Singapore .
The fund is part of IMDA ’ s 5G Innovation Programme to create a vibrant 5G ecosystem that offers exciting opportunities and benefits to individuals , workers and businesses . Building on earlier efforts to trial 5G use cases , the new fund will support enterprises ’ efforts to adopt 5G solutions to address sector challenges or enterprise level needs .
The fund will also support solution providers and technology developers commercialising 5G solutions , to help make the benefits of 5G more accessible to more companies .
Lew Chuen Hong , Chief Executive , IMDA , said : “ 5G is a key enabler for Singapore ’ s digital future , and I am encouraged to see our
5G partnerships with industry demonstrating good results , such as through more efficient and reliable port operations , and good progress on the on-going trials .
“ The next phase of our 5G strategy will see us build on this momentum , to spur innovation and accelerate the adoption and commercialisation of 5G solutions with the new S $ 30m fund . IMDA is nurturing a 5G ecosystem that goes beyond infrastructure , including industry partnerships to develop 5G talent , as well as solutions and services to drive 5G adoption . I hope more companies will come onboard to seize opportunities offered by 5G .”

Australia ’ s securities regulator says server hit by cybersecurity breach

Australia ’ s securities regulator has confirmed a cybersecurity breach at a server it used to transfer files including credit licence applications where some information may have been viewed .

The Australian Securities and Investment Commission ( ASIC ) said it became aware of the incident although it does not appear the credit licence forms or attachments were downloaded .
“ Having strong security controls is not optional for any organisation , regardless of size , vertical , or type of data . If any system is accessible , it will be targeted . Therefore , it ’ s important that cybersecurity is embedded within the culture of an organisation through all systems , processes and employees .”
Sam Curry , Chief Security Officer , Cybereason , said : “ Discovery of the breach at ASIC is a reminder that there is no such thing as anyone being above an attack . “ Details matter . Transparency matters . Process , clarity and putting those at risk first matter the most .”
In a statement , the regulator said : “ While the investigation is ongoing , it appears that there is some risk that some limited information may have been viewed by the threat actor .”
Javvad Malik , Security Awareness Advocate at KnowBe4 , said : “ The breach is a good reminder that all organisations need to have good monitoring and threat detection controls in place so that any intrusion can be quickly detected and responded to .
