Ericsson and Far EasTone first to use 5G network slicing for live broadcast of marathon

For the first time in Taiwan , 5G network slicing was used to ensure a great viewing experience of the competition through smooth transmission of live streaming data .
Catering to the needs of broadcasting the competition along the route , FET and Ericsson worked together to deliver a seamless 5G experience by leveraging 5G end-to-end network slicing .
With the ability to isolate traffic through a slice that is configured to meet broadcasters ’ specific needs in throughput , latency and security , Ericsson ’ s network slicing technology allowed FET to provide quick and flexible allocation of its bandwidth to the event location .

Far EasTone Telecommunications ( FET ), TVBS , a Taiwanese television and multimedia company , and Ericsson have played an important role in the live broadcast of the New Taipei City Wan Jin Shi Marathon ( WJS Marathon ).

In addition , FET improved network capacity by optimizing the existing base stations and adding Cell On Wheels ( COW ) on site to ensure every part of the competition was fully captured . Cell On Wheels are mobile cells that can be added in strategic locations to ensure a good end-user mobile experience .
Sibel Bahadir , Vice President and Head of the FET account of Ericsson Taiwan , said : “ We are proud to be a pioneer in creating another use case in network slicing in collaboration with FET .”

MEASAT selects the Hughes JUPITER System to help connect the unconnected across Malaysia

Hughes Network Systems , an EchoStar company , has announced that MEASAT Global Berhad , Malaysia ’ s premier satellite operator , has selected the Hughes JUPITER System ground platform to enable broadband services on the MEASAT-3d High-Throughput Satellite ( HTS ). MEASAT-3d will leverage the JUPITER System gateway and terminals to extend its CONNECTme NOW satellite broadband services throughout Malaysia .

Yau Chyong Lim , Chief Operating Officer , MEASAT , said : “ We are glad to partner with Hughes to bring this next generation upgrade to our vital CONNECTme NOW services . The Hughes JUPITER System will help us turn our ambitions for MEASAT-3d into reality , serving more than two million unconnected citizens across Malaysia within the next three years .”
Launched on June 22 , 2022 , MEASAT-3d increased the company ’ s broadband capacity 10-fold – from 3 Gbps to 30 Gbps . Now powered by the JUPITER ground system , the new satellite delivers broadband service with download speeds of up to 100 Mbps .
“ MEASAT ’ s choice of the JUPITER System to enable service on the MEASAT-3d HTS underscores their commitment to delivering greater connectivity across Malaysia ,” said Ramesh Ramaswamy , Executive
Vice President and General Manager , International Division , EchoStar . “ We value the partnership and the trust MEASAT has placed in Hughes in helping to bridge the digital divide .”
