75 % of surveyed CIOs struggle to unlock data insights within their organization

While the large majority ( 98 %) of

CIOs report that the pandemic accelerated their organizations ’ Digital Transformation plans , many ( 75 %) are unable to unlock their data to drive a successful Digital Transformation .
These findings come from the 2021 Global CIO Survey commissioned by Logicalis , a global provider of Digital Transformation and cloud managed services .
The survey , covering 1,000 CIOs from around the world , finds that although organizations are pushing to accelerate their Digital Transformation plans , three quarters ( 75 %) of respondents admit their organization is struggling to unlock data to drive a successful Digital Transformation strategy .
Building on this , the survey results reveal that less than half of respondents ( 48 %) use data to increase speed and agility in their operations and only a quarter of respondents use data to drive overall business strategy .
The most popular area for Digital Transformation was IT , with 81 % of organizations reporting accelerated activities in this department , demonstrating the importance of IT in building infrastructure that can support more agile , innovative operations across businesses . The next most popular areas for Digital Transformation activities were operations and customer service , all of which benefit from data-led business strategy .
Data provides a tremendous opportunity for businesses , but legacy systems and processes have created information silos which organizations need to unlock to enable insights and innovation .

Thinxtra and Tether create IoT solution to tackle COVID-19 risk

Thinxtra has expanded its partnership with New Zealand-based technology company , Tether , in the indoor air quality space to deliver Internet of Things ( IoT ) solutions to manage the risk of COVID-19 in public venues .

Tether has leveraged Thinxtra ’ s 0G network , powered by Sigfox ’ s low power Wide Area Network ( LPWAN ) technology , to launch COVID Care , a smart IAQ monitoring solution which includes IoT devices and data analytics software , initially targeted at businesses , schools and aged care providers .
COVID Care monitors carbon dioxide ( CO 2
) levels to identify the risk of COVID-19 and is the first solution of its kind globally that can be dedicated to a room or a group of rooms .
The data collected by COVID Care devices is provided to decision makers – such as facility operators , teachers and managers – in a simple ‘ risk level ’ format that can be viewed in real-time and remotely via smartphone application and dashboard .
“ CO 2 is an excellent indicator of whether the air in a room is conducive to transmitting
COVID-19 via aerosol particles , and it ’ s therefore not inconceivable that the future will hold CO 2 evacuation alerts for classrooms , offices and other spaces occupied by large volumes of people ,” said Brandon Van Blerk , Chief Executive Officer at Tether .
